Mandarin Duck couple. The female is on the left and the male is on the right. They were protecting their nest from the yellow-faced thing (above) when I first saw them.
My dear classmates nicknamed me "Parrsquini" after the remarkable Chris Pasquini, author of the most beloved veterinary anatomy textbook of all time, when our excellent parasitology professors inspired me to illustrate life cycles for many of the parasites we learned in class.
I'll bet I've eaten one of your relatives recently, you ducks! And you're looking pretty tasty yourselves...
